In some cases, chronic teeth grinding (Bruxism) can result in breaking, loosening, or in some cases the loss of teeth. The chronic grinding may wear their teeth down to stumps. Individuals who grind their teeth while sleeping may develop squared jaws as a result of the masseter muscle (also known as the “chewing muscles”) growing due to the additional exercise it receives over time. By injecting small doses of Botox directly into the masseter muscle, the muscle is weakened enough to stop involuntary grinding of the teeth and clenching of the jaw.
If Botox treatment is not right for you, we will discuss with you the benefits of wearing a custom fitted night guard. Boil and bite mouth guards can offer protection however they will often have to be reheated and refitted. They will not provide the safety of a tailored made mouth guard. Dental mouth guards are molded to the exact fit of your teeth. There is always greater stability and protection from a form fitted protector.
